The (solo) corporate Christmas party for a work-at-home freelance journalist

When you're a mom of two small children who works at home -- in a tiny basement office -- during naptime, it's safe to say you don't get a lot of "real life" interactions.

I worked in the real world between 2005 and 2010, and got to attend things like "meetings" and "team-building sessions" and "Christmas parties." Sure, meetings can be boring, but I'd happily take one or two sometimes -- if only to put on some real clothes.

After seeing corporate Christmas party photos online for the last couple of weeks, I decided I wasn't going to miss out. Yeah, it's just me in my basement office in a small town, but I can still have a party!

So this afternoon, I sent off my last few assignments for 2013 and threw myself a little holiday shindig. If you're also a basement-dwelling writer-type, I highly encourage you to party it up. You don't need things like "colleagues" and "social committees" and "pants" to have a holiday gathering, right?

Merry Christmas from all of us here at HeatherLauraClarke.com (a.k.a. ME and only ME), and thank you to all of my awesome clients for another great year. I'm so lucky to be doing what I'm doing every day, and I appreciate all of you so much.
